Aluminum Commercial Door Frames

Installing aluminum door frames in your commercial building comes with its own advantages. For one, aluminum is lighter than traditional building materials, like steel, which also means it’s easier to install. Because aluminum is naturally resistant to rust and other forms of corrosion, aluminum door frames are commonly used in retail storefronts that use large panes of glass.

Aluminum door frames are built to fit virtually any standard-sized wall, they are cost-effective, and are considered 100% recyclable. For interior use, aluminum door frames can have a fire-resistance rating of up to 90 minutes, and generally cost less than hollow metal frames to install.

One of the few downsides to installing an aluminum frame in your commercial building is it’s not as durable as other materials. It is easier to dent aluminum than it is hollow metal, and changing the paint color can be more difficult because aluminum frames are usually anodized.

Hollow Metal Commercial Door Frames

When you need a heavy-duty door frame for your commercial property, hollow metal door frames are the way to go. Hollow metal door frames are crafted from sheets of steel that are bent to fit a specific profile. Once these metal sheets are properly shaped, they are cold-rolled to a particular thickness, which is referred to as “gauge.”

The thinnest gauge used for hollow metal commercial door frames is 16 gauge, which is roughly 0.053 inches thick. The thickest gauge is 12 gauge or 0.093 inches. A 12 gage hollow metal frame is best suited for use in areas with high abuse potential.

Hollow metal frames are commonly used in government and office buildings, schools, correctional facilities, hospitals, banks, and other buildings in vulnerable areas. Hollow metal door frames have a number of customization options, are used on both the interior and exterior of buildings and have a fire rating of up to 3 hours.
